Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) is the official name given by the World Health Organization (WHO) for the infectious disease caused by Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). The disease started in Wuhan, China in December 12 2019, then rapidly spread worldwide and was declared a pandemic on March 11, 2020. It has been reported that ophthalmologists and ENT doctors in Wuhan, China were at increased risk of acquiring COVID-19. Numerous New York City ophthalmologists and ophthalmology trainees have become ill with, and one has died from proven or suspected COVID-19.
