The Role of Cornea in Glaucoma Management: Central Corneal Thickness and Corneal Hysteresis
Corneal biomechanics, especially corneal hysteresis (CH), has emerged as a topic of great interest in the field of glaucoma. This is mainly due to two reasons: (i) corneal biomechanics may play an important role in accurate measurement of intraocular pressure (IOP), the only modifiable risk factor in glaucoma and (ii) corneal biomechanics may be a surrogate for the overall globe biomechanics and therefore may be an indicator of optic nerve head susceptibility to damage from elevated IOP.
