Dr. Bharat Gurnani is currently a Consultant in Cataract, Cornea, Refractive Surgery, Trauma, and External Disease at Aravind Eye Care System, Pondicherry. He completed his residency program in Ophthalmology, certified by the National Board of Examinations and Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India from Aravind Eye Hospital and Post Graduate Institute of Ophthalmology, Pondicherry, India. He has got a Fellow of International Ophthalmology degree from the UK London to his name by clearing all three level of ICO examinations. He completed his long-term clinical and research fellowship in Cataract, Cornea, Refractive Surgery, Trauma, and External Disease Aravind Eye Care System, Pondicherry. He is a member and also holds the degree of MNAMS awarded by the National Academy of Medical Sciences, New Delhi. He has also cleared the MRCS Edinburgh exam in June 2021 and received the prestigious MRCS Ed degree. He is trained under rigorous conditions and holds an MBBS degree recognised by the Medical Council of India, under the aegis of Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, Nashik, Maharashtra from the prestigious Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), Pune, India. He got four distinctions in Biochemistry, Pathology, Ophthalmology, and Community Ophthalmology during his MBBS curriculum. He was among the top 125 candidates to clear this exam in 2007. He cleared NEET PG twice and 4 times DNB (675 rank) entrance exam with top ranks. He was rank 634 in JIPMER 2015, 502 Maharashtra PG, and 412 Manipal University He has performed more than 10,000 cataract surgeries and more than 700 corneal procedures including lamellar surgeries, 30 orbital surgeries, 500 Yag capsulotomies, glaucoma, and retinal procedures. He has trained more than 50 ophthalmologists in SICS at AEH Pondicherry. Recently he achieved the feat of performing more than 100 keratoplasties at a very young age. He published 5 articles under the innovation category in the prestigious Indian Journal of Ophthalmology in 2020, which were landmarks articles considering the practice patterns during the COVID-19 pandemic. Their team received the best of IJO Paper Award 2020- by the All India Ophthalmic Society in 2021 He is an active clinician, surgeon, and researcher. He has presented his work at conferences held at the state, national and international levels. He has presented more than 25 papers at various conferences. He is the Founder and Chief Editor of the Ophthalmology World Page on Facebook, a comprehensive page for Ophthalmology Postgraduates. He has received several awards for his research work including Best paper of Cornea Session 1 at AIOC 2020 Gurugram on Pythium Keratitis. He has the distinctions of maximum publications twice at Aravind Eye Hospital, Pondicherry in the years 2019 (8) and 2020 (32 with 45 accepted publications). He is an active member of All India Ophthalmic Society, Cornea Society of India Intraocular Implant and Refractive Society of India, Tamil Nadu Ophthalmic Association, Pondicherry Ophthalmic Association, and Youth Ophthalmic Society of India. Presently he is an Associate Editor at Clinical Case Reports by Wiley, probably the youngest Associate Editor for any journal, also the section editor of Cornea and Refractive surgery for Tamil Nadu Journal of Ophthalmic Sciences and Research (TJOSR), and Section Editor of Ocular Trauma for Youth Ophthalmic Society of India (YOSI) YOUTUBE Channel. He is also currently the Academic Editor at PLOS One, Associate Editor- Journal of Medical Case Reports, Editorial Board Member- BMC Ophthalmology. He has been labelled as a dynamic young clinical scientist by majority senior ophthalmologist at a very young age.
