Photo courtesy of Rebecca Swain, MD Spindle cell neoplasm consistent with Solitary Fibrous Tumor, extrapleural involving orbital tissue. Relatively uniform population of vaguely spindled cells. The diffuse pattern of cells have light staining cytoplasm with indistinct cell borders as well as generally rounded nuclei with reticulated chromatin. Intranuclear pseudoinclusions are noted. No significant atypia, increased mitotic activity or tumor cell necrosis. Immunoperoxidase stains for CD 34 and 99 highlight the spindle cells. Immunostains for cytokeratin, epithelial membrane antigen, smooth muscle actin, desmin, S100, CD31 and 117 are negative. BCL2 stain postive. STAT equivocal.
