Within the peripheral tissue (effector phase): The activated T cell-cancer cell interaction - the T cell receptor-major histocompatibility complex provides an activating signal for cell death, but the presence of the programmed death 1 (PD1)- programmed death ligand 1 (PDL1) complex inhibits the T cell and the cancer cell is not triggered to undergo apoptosis.
