Most acids produce the extent of their damage immediately upon contact. Of course, the more concentrated the acid, the more severe the immediate effect. Severe chemical burns denude the epithelium and blanch the vascular conjunctiva. Acid burns, after irrigation, can be managed like a severe corneal abrasion. Chemical burn.
